Semiahmoo Engagement Session

Kelsea and JC’s Semiahmoo engagement session was one of those evenings that reminded me exactly why I love photographing couples in the Pacific Northwest. These two have such an easy, genuine connection, and pairing that with the sweeping coastal beauty of Semiahmoo made their session feel both romantic and deeply personal.

If you’ve never been to Semiahmoo Resort for photos, let me paint the picture for you. Located on a quiet spit between Blaine and Birch Bay, the area is surrounded by water on both sides, giving nearly 360-degree views of ocean, mountains, driftwood-lined beaches, and that iconic Northwest light that seems to stretch on forever. A Semiahmoo engagement session offers endless backdrops — from sandy shorelines to textured logs, grassy waterfronts, historic brick walls near the resort, and the most beautiful sunsets. It’s peaceful, charming, and a little bit wild in the best way.

Kelsea and JC showed up completely themselves — relaxed, playful, and so clearly in love. They have that best-friend energy that makes photographing them feel effortless. From the moment they stepped out of the car, they were laughing, teasing each other, and settling into the kind of comfortable rhythm that makes a Semiahmoo engagement session so fun to capture.

We started along the beach where soft waves rolled in and the tide left behind little pockets of still water that reflected the sky. The wind caught Kelsea’s hair in the prettiest way, and JC never missed a moment to reach for her hand or tuck her in a little closer. Semiahmoo tends to have a gentle coastal breeze, which adds the most beautiful movement to photos — and Kelsea embraced it perfectly.

As we walked along the water, the sky started shifting into those soft pastel tones Semiahmoo is famous for. One of my favorite things about a Semiahmoo engagement session is how drastically the light can change within minutes — warm golden sun one moment, then cool, dreamy blues the next. Every shift gave us a new energy to work with, and Kelsea and JC moved through it all so naturally.

We explored the driftwood piles, wandered down the rocky shoreline, and found small pockets of wild grass that glowed beautifully in the evening light. These two made it easy — they would slip into laughter, pull each other close, whisper something sweet, and instantly create the kind of moments photographers dream of capturing. Their connection is genuine and steady, and you can feel that in every frame.

As the sun started to dip behind the horizon, Semiahmoo lit up in that soft golden glow that feels almost cinematic. We took full advantage of the moment, capturing silhouettes, quiet close-ups, and those breathtaking wide shots with the ocean stretching endlessly behind them. Golden hour at Semiahmoo is truly something special, and it turned their Semiahmoo engagement session into something magical.

Before we wrapped up, we found a quiet pocket near the old cannery buildings — one of the most underrated parts of a Semiahmoo engagement session. The textures of the brick and weathered wood brought a fun, moody contrast to the soft beach portraits, and Kelsea and JC leaned right into it. Their chemistry, the quiet moment, the changing sky — everything aligned just right.

By the end of the evening, we were all smiling, wind-swept, and feeling that perfect mix of excitement and calm that comes after a really meaningful session. Kelsea and JC’s Semiahmoo engagement session was more than just portraits — it was a celebration of who they are together, the life they’re building, and the joy they bring to one another.

I’m so grateful I get to document this season for them. And if you’re dreaming of a coastal, romantic, lightly windswept session full of texture and Pacific Northwest charm, a Semiahmoo engagement session might be exactly what you’re looking for.

Let me know when you’re ready — Semiahmoo always delivers.
