Artist Point Maternity Session
There are certain people who become more than clients over the years — they become part of your life, your memories, and your stories. For me, Kendra and Jake are absolutely that kind of couple. I’ve been photographing them for so long now that it feels like we’ve created a tradition together. Every year or so, we pick some incredible location, pack up a few beautiful outfits, and make a little magic. One of my favorite past sessions with them was their Torrey Pines family photoshoot, which you can peek at here.
So when Kendra told me she was expecting her second baby, I didn’t hesitate for a second — of course we were going to celebrate this moment with another gorgeous session. And of course, it had to be somewhere dramatic, memorable, and full of that sweeping Pacific Northwest beauty we both love. There was no better place than Artist Point.
If you’ve ever been to Artist Point, you already know how breathtaking it is. That combination of rugged mountains, crisp alpine air, winding trails, and panoramic views is something that never gets old. It has this ethereal quality, like stepping into another world. It’s one of my favorite places to shoot because every direction gives you something incredible — jagged peaks, soft rolling fog, reflections in alpine lakes, or snow patches that stick around long after summer. For a maternity session, especially one with a bit of drama and elegance, it’s a dream.
Kendra arrived in the most stunning black maternity gown from Sew Trendy Accessories. Their dresses never disappoint — they have this way of hugging all the right places, flowing beautifully in the wind, and elevating a maternity session into something truly artistic. But what I loved most was the black hat she brought to pair with the dress. I’m always a fan of bold accessories, especially in wide, open landscapes, and this one added just the right amount of editorial flair.
What do you think — are you a hat person for maternity sessions, or do you prefer something more classic? Personally, I think she could have worn anything and still looked incredible, but the hat gave us such fun variety in her portraits.
As we started photographing, the mountains wrapped around us in every direction. The light bounced off the peaks in that soft, golden way that only happens at Artist Point. The wind would catch her dress at the perfect moment, giving us that gorgeous movement that makes maternity sessions feel alive and powerful. You could see the joy in her face, the excitement in her posture, and the quiet love between her and Jake. He always brings such a steady, calming presence to their sessions — supportive, sweet, and completely in awe of his wife.
Watching them together always reminds me why I love what I do. Beyond the beautiful landscapes and outfits, it’s these relationships that matter most. The trust, the comfort, the shared history — all of that shows up in the photos. And now, getting to document Kendra as she prepares to welcome another baby feels like such an honor. I’ve watched their family grow, I’ve photographed their biggest moments, and every time we create new images together, it means more.
We ended the session just as the sun dipped behind the mountains, giving us that soft, dreamy glow that wraps everything in magic. Kendra stood there, hand on her belly, dress flowing around her, hat tilted just slightly, with Jake at her side — and it hit me once again how special these moments are. These photos will become part of their family story, pieces of nostalgia their children will look back on someday.
Artist Point delivered in every way possible. Dramatic? Absolutely. Romantic? Completely. Meaningful? More than ever.
I’m already excited for whatever adventure we plan next — because with this family, every session becomes something unforgettable.
