Seattle Engagement at Gas Works Park

I knew from the moment Michelle emailed me that this session was going to be a fun one—but I don’t think I realized just how much I’d fall in love with this little trio. When she told me they wanted to bring their dog, Moose, along for their engagement session, I was instantly in. Moose is a fluffy little mini poodle with the cutest personality, and honestly, it was hard not to spend the entire time just photographing him. But Matt and Michelle are so natural and sweet together that once we got started, everything just flowed.

As the sun set over the lake, their joy was evident, making this a perfect setting for their seattle engagement at gasworks park.

This beautiful seattle engagement at gasworks park truly captures the essence of love in the city.

We chose to do their engagement photos at iconic Gas Works Park in Seattle, which is one of my favorite spots in the city for sessions. Sitting on the north shore of Lake Union, Gas Works Park is a former gasification plant that’s been turned into a public park, with old industrial structures, big grassy hills, and some of the best views of the Seattle skyline you can find. The mix of rusted towers, green lawns, and water makes it such a unique backdrop for engagement photos—especially on a clear evening when the light hits the city just right.

Choosing Gasworks Park for this Seattle engagement at Gasworks Park was a perfect decision for Matt and Michelle.

We met up as the sun was starting to dip lower in the sky, that golden hour that every photographer dreams of. Moose trotted in like he owned the place, completely living his best life with his people. I loved watching the way Matt and Michelle interacted with him—so much laughter, so many little moments of affection and silliness. Including a dog in an engagement session isn’t always the easiest thing logistically, but it always adds this layer of joy and authenticity. For them, Moose is family, so it made perfect sense to have him there.

The joy during their Seattle engagement at Gasworks Park was infectious, especially with Moose around.

As we wandered around Gas Works Park, we moved between the big open hill overlooking Lake Union and the quieter corners near the old machinery. The views from the top of the hill are incredible; you can see the downtown skyline, boats gliding across the water, and the colors of the sky changing by the minute. It gave us such a beautiful variety of backdrops without ever needing to leave the park. One minute we were capturing sweeping, dramatic scenes with the city behind them; the next, we were tucked into a pocket of greenery where everything felt a little more intimate.

With the stunning views during the Seattle engagement at Gasworks Park, every moment was unforgettable.

What stood out to me most about Matt and Michelle is how comfortable they are together. There’s an ease between them that you can’t pose or force—it’s just there. They’d fall into laughter, tuck in close during the windier moments, and share these quick little glances that said everything without a word. My favorite images from their session are the ones where they forgot I was even there and just focused on each other (and Moose, of course).

It’s moments like this Seattle engagement at Gasworks Park that remind me why I love this job.

The light that evening was pure magic. As the sun moved lower, the whole park was washed in this warm, golden glow. It reflected off the water and brushed over the industrial structures, giving them a softer, almost romantic feel. This is one of the reasons I love photographing at Gas Works Park—there’s this perfect contrast between the gritty, historic structures and the tenderness of couples like Matt and Michelle. The result is moody, modern, and a little bit cinematic.

The backdrop of the Seattle engagement at Gasworks Park added a special touch to their love story.

We ended the session with them snuggled up together, Moose happily tucked in with them, as Seattle lit up behind us. It was one of those nights where I walked back to my car feeling extra grateful for this work—for the couples who trust me, for the places I get to photograph, and for all the small, in-between moments that tell the real story.

This Seattle engagement at Gasworks Park is just the beginning of their beautiful journey together.

I absolutely cannot wait for their wedding. After spending time with them (and bonding with Moose), I know their day is going to be full of joy, personality, and so much love. Sessions like this one at Gas Works Park are a reminder of why engagement photos matter—they’re not just about pretty pictures; they’re about capturing who you are, right now, in a season you’ll never get back.

Every couple deserves a magical Seattle engagement at Gasworks Park like this one.

If you’ve been thinking about bringing your dog to your engagement session or planning a shoot at a location that feels very “you,” consider this your sign to go for it. Watching Matt, Michelle, and Moose together at Gas Works Park made it crystal clear: the more your session reflects your real life, the more meaningful your photos will be.

Don’t miss the chance to have your own Seattle engagement at Gasworks Park—it’s a dream location!
