12 Of The Best Engagement Session Locations in Seattle

Seattle is one of those places where engagement sessions never feel repetitive. You can go from beach to forest to city skyline in a matter of minutes, and every location brings a totally different mood. Whether you want something adventurous, romantic, urban, or quiet and nature-forward, there are so many beautiful options for engagement photos in Seattle and just outside the city.

After photographing countless engagement session locations in Seattle over the years, these are some of the best locations for your engagement session in Seattle or near Seattle — places that photograph beautifully, feel authentic, and give you variety without feeling forced. And here is a little tip: Plan your outfits around where you plan to take your engagement photos. I wrote a blog all about it, so be sure to check it out.

Discovery Park
Discovery Park is hands down one of my favorite engagement session locations in Seattle for so many reasons. It has everything — ocean views, forested trails, tall grasses, open fields, old buildings, and even mountain views on a clear day. It’s perfect for couples who want variety and a natural, relaxed feel without hopping between multiple locations.

Golden Gardens Park
Golden Gardens is ideal if you’re drawn to the water and love sunsets. Sandy beaches, grassy areas, and views of the Olympic Mountains make this a beautiful option, especially in the evening.

Washington Park Arboretum
The Arboretum feels peaceful and romantic, with winding paths, seasonal blooms, and lots of greenery year-round. It’s especially lovely in spring and early summer but photographs beautifully in every season.

Kerry Park
If you want iconic Seattle skyline views, Kerry Park delivers. This is a great choice for couples who want a city-forward feel with Mount Rainier visible on clear days.

Alki Beach
Alki offers a laid-back coastal vibe with city skyline views across the water. It’s perfect for couples who love the beach but still want Seattle visible in the background.

Snoqualmie Falls
Just outside Seattle, Snoqualmie Falls is dramatic and timeless. It’s ideal for couples who want something bold and nature-driven without going too far from the city.

Rattlesnake Lake
Rattlesnake Lake is great for adventurous couples who want mountain views, water, and forest all in one place. It feels peaceful and expansive, especially in the early morning or evening.

Pioneer Square
For couples who love architecture and an urban vibe, Pioneer Square offers brick buildings, alleyways, and classic Seattle character. It’s perfect for a more editorial, city-inspired engagement session.

Gas Works Park
Gas Works is iconic, quirky, and very Seattle. With skyline views, open grassy hills, and industrial elements, it’s a great option for couples who want something playful and unique. Although this couple below wasn’t getting their engagement photos taken, they were, however, taking their wedding portrait photos here. a bride and groom at gasworks park in seattle for their wedding photos

Kubota Garden
Kubota Garden is incredibly serene and visually stunning. Water features, bridges, and carefully designed landscapes make it ideal for couples wanting a romantic, intimate feel.

Woodinville Wine Country
If you love wine and a relaxed, elevated atmosphere, Woodinville is a beautiful option. Vineyards, tasting rooms, and wooded backdrops give engagement photos a wine-country feel without leaving Washington. In the summer, there are gorgeous lavender fields and wild flower fields to consider as a location for your engagement session.

Deception Pass State Park
A bit farther out, but absolutely worth it. Deception Pass offers cliffs, beaches, forests, and dramatic water views. It’s perfect for couples who want something adventurous and unforgettable.

The Best Seasons to Book an Engagement Session in Seattle

Seattle is one of those places where every season feels completely different—and that’s actually what makes it so special for engagement photos. The light, the colors, even the mood of the city shifts throughout the year, so choosing the right season really comes down to the kind of atmosphere you’re drawn to.

Here’s a breakdown of what each season offers and how to decide what fits you best.

Spring (March – May): Fresh, Romantic, and Full of Life

Spring in Seattle feels soft and hopeful. After months of grey skies, everything starts to bloom again, and the city comes back to life.

  • Cherry blossoms, tulips, and lush greenery
  • Soft, diffused light from overcast skies
  • Cooler temperatures, but generally comfortable

This is a beautiful time if you want something that feels romantic and airy. Locations like parks and gardens really shine during this season.

A few things to keep in mind:

  • Weather can still be unpredictable
  • You may need flexibility with scheduling
  • Early spring is quieter, while late spring gets busier

Summer (June – September): Golden Light and Clear Skies

Summer is easily the most popular time for engagement sessions in Seattle—and for good reason.

  • Long days with late sunsets (sometimes as late as 9pm)
  • Warmer, drier weather
  • That soft, golden evening light that everyone loves

This is the season for waterfront sessions, mountain views, and wide-open spaces. Everything feels vibrant and easy.

Things to consider:

  • Locations can be busier, especially on weekends
  • You’ll want to plan your session later in the evening for the best light
  • Booking in advance is important since photographers fill up quickly

Fall (Late September – November): Moody, Warm, and Textured

Fall in Seattle is incredibly underrated. It brings in deeper tones and a more emotional, cinematic feel.

  • Rich colors like rust, mustard, deep green, and burgundy
  • Slightly moodier skies and softer light
  • Crisp air that makes everything feel cozy

This is perfect if you want something that feels a little more intimate and grounded. It’s also a great time for outfit layering, which adds depth to your photos.

Things to keep in mind:

  • Rain becomes more frequent as the season progresses
  • Leaves peak at different times depending on the year
  • Flexibility is helpful for rescheduling if needed

Winter (December – February): Intimate and Atmospheric

Winter sessions in Seattle are often overlooked—but they can be incredibly beautiful in a quieter, more subtle way.

  • Misty mornings, fog, and soft, diffused light
  • Fewer crowds at popular locations
  • A more intimate, stripped-back feel

If you lean into the mood of the season, winter sessions can feel really artistic and unique.

Things to consider:

  • Shorter daylight hours
  • Higher chance of rain
  • Cooler temperatures (layers are key)

So, When Should You Book Your Engagement Session?

If you’re looking for:

  • Bright, warm, and classic → Summer
  • Soft and romantic with blooms → Spring
  • Moody, rich, and cozy → Fall
  • Quiet, artistic, and intimate → Winter

There really isn’t a “wrong” season in Seattle—it just depends on the feeling you want your photos to have.

A Final Thought on Choosing an Engagement Session Location in Seattle

Seattle’s beauty isn’t just in its sunshine—it’s in its atmosphere. The clouds, the light, the textures of each season all add something different.

Choosing your season is less about the “perfect” weather and more about what kind of story you want your photos to tell.

One of the best parts about engagement sessions in Seattle is that there’s no single “right” location — the best spot is the one that feels most like you. Whether that’s a quiet park, a dramatic overlook, or a beach at sunset, choosing a place you genuinely enjoy always leads to the most natural, meaningful photos.

If you’re not sure which location fits your vision, I’m always happy to help you narrow it down based on season, lighting, privacy, and the overall feel you want for your session.

If you are still having trouble finding an outfit for your engagement session, this place does rentals.
