Fashion in France: A Branding Session in Champagne
Last September, I had the incredible opportunity to photograph a branding session in one of the most charming and iconic regions of France—the Champagne region. Known for its rolling vineyards, elegant architecture, and (of course) world-renowned sparkling wine, this area has a timeless allure that makes it the perfect backdrop for a stylish and elevated branding session.
The Champagne region, renowned for its breathtaking landscapes and historical significance, offers a unique blend of tradition and modernity. The vineyards stretch as far as the eye can see, meticulously cared for by generations of winemakers. The rich history of this region dates back to the Roman times, and each village tells a story of its own. For instance, the village of Épernay is often referred to as the capital of Champagne, housing some of the most famous Champagne houses like Moët & Chandon and Perrier-Jouët. This deep-rooted heritage adds an extra layer of charm and significance to any branding session held here.
Rachel, the woman I photographed, is an influencer and fashion content creator based in Reims. She has an effortlessly chic style and a strong personal brand that blends French elegance with modern sophistication. Her goal was to refresh her content with images that truly reflected her personality, her work in fashion, and the charm of the city she calls home.
Rachel’s style is not just a reflection of her personality, but also an embodiment of the French fashion ethos that emphasizes elegance and simplicity. Influencers like her often draw inspiration from their surroundings, and Rachel’s choice of outfits for the session perfectly complemented the luxurious vibe of Reims. For example, she often incorporates classic French pieces into her wardrobe, like the timeless little black dress or a well-fitted trench coat, which are staples in the closets of fashion-forward French women.
We started our morning in the heart of Reims, one of the most historically rich cities in the region. Walking through its streets feels like stepping back in time. There’s a kind of quiet beauty to the city—grand yet inviting. The creamy limestone buildings, ornate balconies, and winding cobblestone streets gave us endless inspiration to work with. Everywhere we turned was another moment begging to be photographed.
Beyond the picturesque streets, Reims boasts remarkable historic sites, including the Palais du Tau, a former archbishop’s palace that now houses a museum. This location offers endless opportunities for creative photography. The intricate sculptures and stained glass windows provide stunning backdrops that enhance the visual storytelling of the branding session. Incorporating such iconic landmarks gives depth to the imagery, making them not just photos but memorable pieces of art.
Our first location was just outside the Reims Cathedral—an architectural marvel that has stood for centuries and crowned kings. While we didn’t shoot directly in front of the cathedral (out of respect for the space and to avoid the tourist buzz), we used the surrounding buildings with their gothic arches and stately facades to bring that sense of historical grandeur into the session. The early morning light streamed through the arches, adding warmth and depth to each shot. We ended up going to the famous Fossier store which has the most famous biscuits. You must try them next time you are in France.
The Fossier store, an iconic gem in the heart of Reims, is famous not only for its biscuits but also for its rich history dating back to 1756. As we stepped into the store, the air filled with the sweet scent of freshly baked goods, creating a perfect ambiance for candid shots. This location allowed Rachel to showcase her affinity for both fashion and culinary delights, emphasizing the importance of local culture in branding photography. Including local delicacies in a fashion shoot adds a unique touch, creating a narrative that resonates with viewers.
Rachel wore a tailored cream blazer and wide-leg trousers paired with strappy sandals—simple, elegant, and totally on-brand. Her outfit mirrored the architecture: structured yet soft, refined yet approachable. Every detail was intentional, from the way she held her bag to how she leaned effortlessly against a column, exuding confidence and calm. Found at the best French online store Sezane.
Her outfit choices during the session were intentional, drawing from the classic elements of French fashion. The cream blazer and wide-leg trousers not only accentuated her figure but also represented the effortless chic style that is synonymous with Parisian women. The versatility of her clothing allowed for dynamic poses and movements, making the photographs come alive. Rachel’s eye for detail, like choosing accessories that complemented her outfit, further enhanced the visual appeal of the session, showcasing the intricate connection between fashion and personal branding.
From there, we wandered into the quieter parts of town, where the buildings are lower and the streets feel more residential. The shutters were painted soft blues and greens, the doors tall and stately, the ironwork on balconies intricate and expressive. These corners of the city felt intimate and honest, which brought a beautiful contrast to the more formal first location.
The quieter parts of Reims reveal the soul of the city, where the charm of everyday life unfolds. The residential areas, lined with quaint cafés and local boutiques, served as an ideal backdrop for a more relaxed segment of our shoot. Each street corner presented an opportunity to capture authentic moments that echoed a sense of belonging. This contrast to the historical sites added depth to the branding session, allowing for a holistic representation of Rachel’s lifestyle and personality.
Rachel changed into a flowing printed dress in a pink color that moved with the breeze. It felt so romantic and effortless—perfect for the more relaxed part of our session. We shot in front of a charming cottage in Reims near her home. These moments felt less posed and more personal—like flipping through someone’s European travel diary.
Wearing a flowing printed dress, Rachel embodied the essence of French romance. The soft pink fabric danced with the breeze, creating ethereal movement in the photos. This setting near her home was significant, adding a layer of personal connection to the images. It felt intimate, as if we were capturing snippets of her life rather than just staged photographs. These candid moments, filled with laughter and spontaneity, resonate more with audiences, inviting them into her world.
This session reminded me of why I love branding photography so much. It’s not just about a headshot or outfit photo—it’s about storytelling. It’s about showcasing who someone is, what they value, and the beautiful surrounding locations. And doing that in a place like Champagne? Pure magic.
Branding photography transcends mere images; it is a powerful storytelling tool that encapsulates the essence of an individual. In Rachel’s case, her journey as a fashion influencer was vividly portrayed through the lens, showcasing not just her outfits but also her passion for fashion and lifestyle. The setting of Champagne, with its picturesque vineyards and rich culture, added a magical layer to the narrative, connecting the viewer emotionally to her brand.
As I’ve been revisiting these galleries from last year, I’m reminded how meaningful these shoots are—not just to my clients, but to me. They’re a reflection of a shared moment in time. A collaboration. A celebration of beauty, confidence, and the little details that make someone’s brand theirs.
Reflecting on these sessions reminds me of the importance of collaboration in the creative process. Each branding shoot is not just about capturing images; it’s about building relationships and trust. As a photographer, understanding my client’s vision and infusing that into the shoot is crucial. It’s a dialogue, a co-creation of sorts, where we both contribute to the artistic outcome. These moments of collaboration lead to stunning visuals that resonate with the audience, drawing them into the narrative we create together.
If you’re dreaming of a branding session in a place that inspires you—whether that’s a cobblestone street in France, a Parisian café, or somewhere closer to home—I’d be honored to help bring your vision to life.
For those considering a branding session, it’s essential to find locations that reflect your personality and brand ethos. Whether it’s the vibrant streets of a city or the serene countryside, the backdrop plays a pivotal role in the overall aesthetic. A thoughtfully curated session can elevate your brand, making it memorable and engaging. As a photographer, I strive to create environments where my clients feel comfortable and inspired, ensuring that their true selves shine through in every shot.
