Magical Laurel Creek Manor Wedding: Sara and Kevin
Sara and Kevin’s wedding at Laurel Creek Manor felt like stepping right into the middle of a romantic movie, with a fun little twist of “Friends” humor woven through their whole day. From the moment I arrived at the gorgeous venue, there was this soft, peaceful energy in the air. I often find this kind of calmness when I work wedding here at Laurel Creek Manor. It’s one reason it’s one of my favorite wedding venues in Washington.
The colors Sara and Kevin chose were light, gentle, and romantic, soft tones that felt perfectly at home against the manicured gardens, ivy-covered walls, and old-world charm of the manor. Everything about it felt thoughtful and beautifully them.
One of my absolute favorite things about this wedding day was how much of Sara’s personality showed up in the details. She’s a huge “Friends” fan, and she found the sweetest ways to incorporate the show into their decor. There were quotes sprinkled throughout, from signs to little touches tucked into the reception details, that made guests smile as they recognized them. My favorite was her getting-ready robe that said “I found my lobster.” It was the perfect nod to the show and such a cute, meaningful way to celebrate finding her forever person. Little things like that are what make a wedding day feel so personal and fun to photograph.
It was my first time photographing a wedding at Laurel Creek Manor, and I absolutely fell in love with it. Even though a big storm had passed through just days before, the venue grounds were still so beautiful. There was lush greenery, winding paths, and the kind of classic Pacific Northwest garden setting that feels both elegant and inviting. Not to mention the dreamy weeping willow tree in the back.
The soft color palette Sara and Kevin chose blended so nicely with the creamy tones of the manor house and the greenery all around them. Nothing felt overly bold or distracting. It all worked together in this quiet, romantic way that let their love and emotions shined through.
One of the things I loved most about this venue (and this wedding) was getting to take Sara and Kevin behind the manor for portraits. Back there, there’s a wide, open field framed by weeping willow trees that look like something out of a storybook. The way the branches drape down and move with the breeze creates the dreamiest backdrop. Photographing these two cuties there, just the two of them tucked away from the bustle of the day, was such a highlight. The soft light, the movement of her dress, the way they looked at each other… it was the definition of romantic.
Sara and Kevin’s wedding ceremony was just as heartfelt as their personalized details. Sara’s little brother officiated the wedding, which made everything feel even more meaningful. I have always said that there’s something really special about having a family member marry you. Someone who doesn’t just know your love story, but has lived through so much of it with you. Sara’s brother shared little memories and personal touches that you just don’t get with a stranger officiating, and you could feel how much love was wrapped up in every word. Watching Sara and Kevin say their vows with her brother standing next to them made the whole moment feel extra tender and intimate.
Throughout the day, one thing that really stood out was how expressive and joyful Sara was. She has such a gorgeous smile, and she didn’t hold back at all—which, as a photographer, I absolutely love. There was so much laughter, happy tears, and genuine emotion between them and their families. It made my job so easy, just following along and catching those little moments: the way Kevin looked at her when she wasn’t watching, how her friends hyped her up and made her laugh getting ready, and the quiet in-between glances they shared during the ceremony and reception.
As the evening went on, Laurel Creek Manor took on this magical glow. Twinkling lights, warm tones, and that soft garden atmosphere made everything feel even more like a fairytale. Between the romantic setting, the thoughtful “Friends” references, the soft, timeless color palette, and the emotional moments with their families, this wedding truly had it all. It was playful and personal, but also incredibly elegant and heartfelt.
Looking back, I would easily call this a true romantic wedding in every sense of the word. From the “I found my lobster” robe to the weeping willows swaying in the background, from her brother officiating to the way their soft tones melted into the beauty of Laurel Creek Manor, Sara and Kevin’s day was full of heart. It was such a joy to be there and to capture a love story that was equal parts sweet, stylish, and deeply sentimental.
