Navy and Burgundy Elegant Wedding at The Edgewater Hotel: A Seattle Waterfront Wedding

Some wedding days just feel good from start to finish—and Allie and Derek’s Edgewater Hotel wedding was exactly that. Set along the Seattle waterfront in September, their celebration landed right at that in-between moment where summer begins to soften and fall quietly arrives.

This wedding beautifully showcased the couple’s love for classic colors, especially navy and burgundy, which were elegantly woven throughout their decor. The theme of navy and burgundy created a stunning visual contrast that enhanced the beauty of their wedding. I love this waterfront wedding venue. Seattle is full of amazing waterfront wedding venues.

That year also brought one of the region’s tougher wildfire seasons, and the air carried a noticeable haze throughout the day. While the smoke was unavoidable, it transformed the light in the most unexpected way—muted skies, softened contrast, and a dreamy, cinematic glow that wrapped around the waterfront. The result was an atmosphere that felt intimate and romantic, almost like the city was holding its breath just for them.

With family traveling in from out of town, Allie and Derek wanted their wedding to showcase the very best of Seattle, and the Edgewater Hotel felt like the perfect reflection of that vision. Perched right on the water, it offered iconic views of Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains, paired with the hotel’s legendary rock-and-roll history—a detail especially meaningful to them, as both were raised by parents who love classic rock (Queen, in particular).

From a Winery Proposal to a Waterfront “I Do”

Allie and Derek’s journey to the altar began with a proposal that perfectly reflects who they are as a couple. Derek proposed in November 2020 at Col Solare Winery on Red Mountain in the Tri-Cities—a place they had long talked about visiting together after Allie had traveled there for work.

What was supposed to be a quick stop on the way to Walla Walla turned into a nearly six-hour drive thanks to unexpected snow and traffic. Somehow, Derek managed to stay calm the entire time, quietly carrying the plan until the moment was just right. That same steady presence showed up again on their wedding day.

When they’re not wine tasting in Woodinville, you’ll find these two paddle boarding, getting outdoors, or spending time with their Mini Aussie, Moose—who, while not able to attend the wedding in person, was absolutely still part of the celebration.

Ceremony Details That Felt Personal and Meaningful

Their Edgewater Hotel wedding ceremony was heartfelt, elegant, and deeply personal. One of the standout design elements was the floral arch created by Lamb and Twig. Instead of a traditional overhead arch, the florals grew organically from the ground, framing the ceremony space in a way that felt modern, romantic, and intentional. Their wedding day was a beautiful representation of their style, highlighted by the navy and burgundy color scheme that truly made the day memorable.

Allie’s brother officiated the ceremony, which brought an added layer of warmth and authenticity. You could feel how close their families are and how important it was to them to involve loved ones in meaningful roles throughout the day.

The color palette—navy worn by the entire wedding party with accents of dusty rose and burgundy—felt especially perfect against the moody waterfront tones and softened September light. Everything came together in a way that felt timeless and effortless. The choice of navy and burgundy not only honored their aesthetic preferences but also resonated with the romantic atmosphere of the venue.

Thoughtful Details (Including the Cutest Cocktail Napkins)

Allie and Derek infused their day with details that told their story in subtle, heartfelt ways. Shelves near the fireplace were styled with childhood photos of the couple, while images of grandparents who have passed were thoughtfully displayed at the card table—quiet tributes that made the space feel deeply personal.

Although Moose couldn’t be there in person, he still had his moment. Custom cocktail napkins featured a delicate gold outline of his face—simple, elegant, and undeniably adorable. It was such a sweet way to include him and one of those small details guests couldn’t stop talking about.

Desserts by Raised Doughnuts and Cakes added a fun, relaxed element to the evening, while still feeling beautifully styled. Hair and makeup by Offwhite Makeup & Beauty kept everything polished, natural, and timeless. Even the dessert table featured touches of navy and burgundy, which tied into the overall wedding theme beautifully.

Allie found her gown at Natasha’s Elegant Bridal, and Derek’s suit—truly one of my all-time favorites—was tailored, classic, and elevated in a way that perfectly complemented the day.

A Celebration Rooted in Connection

The day was flawlessly coordinated by Kristen Cohen, who also happens to be a past bride of mine. After her own wedding, Kristen launched her coordination business, and getting to work alongside her again on weddings like this one has been such a full-circle experience.

Despite the smoky skies, or maybe because of them, Allie and Derek’s Edgewater Hotel wedding felt especially intimate—elegant yet relaxed, intentional without being overdone, and filled with love at every turn. It was the kind of day that reminds you how meaningful it is when couples stay true to who they are and let their story lead the way.The couple’s commitment to the navy and burgundy palette was evident in every detail, making their celebration truly unique and personal.

I would love to help you document your wedding at the Edgewater or any waterfront wedding! I look forward to speaking to you!
