Hey there, fellow photographers!

If you’re here, it’s likely because you’re on a journey—one filled with stunning landscapes, beautiful portraits, and more than a few blurry photos (hey, we’ve all been there!). But being a photographer is so much more than just taking photos; it’s about building a business, navigating client relationships, staying competitive, and yes, keeping your creative spark alive. After 16 years in this wild world of photography (specifically weddings), I’ve learned a thing or two (okay, maybe a million!) about what it takes to turn your passion into a thriving, profitable business. This post is for all those photographers who are looking for insight on proven solutions to help you with your photography business.

Today, I want to share some of the ways I can help you on your journey, avoid common pitfalls, and build a photography business that’s both sustainable and fun!

1. Setting Your Price with Confidence

Pricing. That one word has sent many photographers down a rabbit hole. If you’ve ever thought, “How much should I charge?” or “Is my work worth that?”—I get it. Early on, I wrestled with this too, but through years of trial and error, I’ve nailed down some pricing strategies that won’t just cover your costs but actually reflect the value you bring to the table. I’ll guide you through the fine art of calculating rates, charging what you’re worth, and confidently explaining your pricing to clients.

Fun Tip: Think about each photo session as an experience rather than just a product. This mindset helps clients see the true value in your work, and it’s something I’m passionate about sharing with you! I love to help photographers with this specific struggle.

2. Marketing in a Way That Feels Authentic

Marketing doesn’t have to feel sleazy, forced, or robotic. I remember when “social media” meant posting a photo without worrying about hashtags, reels, or algorithms. These days, things have changed! But don’t worry—I’ve stayed on top of these trends and can show you how to make social media, SEO, and even email marketing work for you without compromising your authentic style. From crafting posts that show off your unique personality to building a loyal following, I’ll help you make marketing feel as natural as snapping the shutter.

Fun Tip: Ever tried showing the “behind the scenes” of a shoot on your stories? People love to see the process, and it keeps things real and engaging. I promise I always get the most likes on the personal videos or photos of me doing my job.

3. Managing the Business (and Finding Balance!)

One of the trickiest parts of being a photographer is balancing the business side with the creative side. No one tells you how quickly admin, invoices, and emails can pile up! But, having spent years learning how to streamline my workflow, I can help you set up systems that save time and keep things running smoothly. You’ll learn how to structure your days, manage client interactions, and maybe even carve out a few extra hours for personal projects or family time.

Fun Tip: Embrace templates! From email responses to contracts, having templates will save you a ton of time and reduce your admin stress. I love using Dubsado and they have the best templates. I have a special code for anyone looking to try it out. Just send me a message and I’ll be happy to share it. There are also some other important photography apps and websites that will change your business that I am happy to share with you.

4. Building Lasting Client Relationships

Let’s face it—there are a lot of photographers out there. The one thing that will make you stand out? How you treat your clients. I’ve found that creating a memorable experience is often what keeps clients coming back year after year. I’ll show you the secrets to making each client feel like they’re your number one priority, from the first interaction to the final delivery. With a few tips, you’ll be fostering client relationships that not only bring in repeat business but also encourage referrals.

Fun Tip: Add a small personal touch to every delivery—whether it’s a handwritten thank you note or a custom flash drive. Little gestures go a long way! I personally love writing a handwritten note with something I know the clients love.

5. Dealing with the “Business Blues”

Every creative hits a wall, and photographers are no exception. Whether it’s during the slow season, after a particularly tough shoot, or just because you feel creatively drained, I’m here to help you find your way back. I’ve had my fair share of business blues over the years, and I’ll share how to keep pushing forward, rediscover your “why,” and refresh your passion for photography.

Fun Tip: A change of scenery or a new project idea can work wonders (trust me!). If you usually shoot portraits, try a landscape session or street photography just for fun. I also love taking trips to new locations to find for my next photoshoot project or client.

Let’s Take This Journey Together

If you’re ready to take your photography business to the next level (and have a lot of fun doing it!), let’s connect. I’ve been exactly where you are, and I know the ups and downs of this industry inside and out. By working together, we’ll tackle your toughest challenges, celebrate your wins, and keep that creative spark alive.  Send me a message in the contact form and I will be in touch with you soon. Grab your camera, take a deep breath, and let’s dive into building a business you’ll be proud of!

On your team,

Courtney
