How to Make Small Decor Choices That Will Elevate Your Wedding Photos

When planning a wedding, it’s easy to get caught up in the big decisions—venue, dress, catering—but often, it’s the small details that make the biggest impact in your wedding photos. If you want your images to feel elegant, timeless, and luxurious, there are a few intentional decor choices you can make that will take your celebration to the next level.

As a photographer, I’ve seen firsthand how these subtle upgrades can transform a space, creating a more refined and polished look. Here are a few simple yet impactful ways to elevate your wedding decor so that your photos look effortlessly high-end.

1. Upgrade Your Chairs

Most venues provide standard banquet chairs or folding chairs, but swapping them out for something more refined and stylish can instantly elevate the aesthetic of your ceremony and reception. Consider options like:

  • Cross-back chairs for a romantic, rustic-chic feel
  • Ghost chairs for a sleek, modern vibe
  • Gold or velvet chairs for a touch of opulence

Chairs take up a significant amount of visual space in wedding photos, so choosing ones that match your vision will make your images feel more curated and intentional.

2. Use Elegant Table Linens

Table settings are a major focal point in reception photography. Instead of settling for basic white polyester linens, opt for:

  • Luxurious fabrics like velvet, silk, or textured linen
  • Floor-length tablecloths (no short linens that expose table legs)
  • Layered runners or gauzy draping for added depth

Even upgrading to a neutral-toned or champagne-colored linen instead of stark white can make a dramatic difference in how soft and refined your photos look.

3. Choose Thoughtful Florals

Florals are one of the most visually impactful elements in wedding photography. To create a more luxurious feel:

  • Opt for lush, full arrangements instead of sparse or tight bouquets
  • Incorporate soft, neutral tones (whites, blushes, pastels) to create a timeless look
  • Add candlelight or gold vases for a warm, romantic glow
  • Consider garlands or floral installations that cascade onto tables for an effortlessly elegant effect

4. Be Intentional with Candles & Lighting

Lighting plays a huge role in how wedding photos turn out. Harsh overhead lights can create unflattering shadows, while candlelight, chandeliers, and soft uplighting add depth and warmth. To enhance your wedding photos:

  • Use lots of candles—pillar candles, votives, and tapers in glass hurricanes look stunning
  • Opt for warm, dimmable lighting instead of bright, cool-toned LEDs
  • Add fairy lights or hanging bulbs for a dreamy atmosphere

Candlelight, in particular, adds an ethereal, intimate glow that photographs beautifully and makes every shot feel more romantic.

5. Swap Basic Place Settings for Elegant Details

Small upgrades to your place settings can make your reception tables look high-end. Instead of basic white plates and silverware, consider:

  • Gold or black flatware for a refined touch
  • Charger plates to frame each setting
  • Silk or velvet napkins in soft hues
  • Custom name cards or wax-sealed menus for a personalized, luxurious feel

These details may seem minor, but they contribute to an overall cohesive and polished aesthetic that makes a major difference in photos.

6. Opt for a Minimalist Yet Elevated Ceremony Setup

Your ceremony backdrop is one of the most important visual elements in your wedding album. Instead of a standard arch with basic florals, consider:

  • A floral installation that blends naturally with the surroundings
  • An asymmetrical or deconstructed arch for a modern, artistic look
  • A clean, minimalist setup with statement pieces (like oversized florals or draped fabric)

The key is to create a refined focal point that enhances the setting rather than overcrowding it with too many competing elements.

7. Keep Your Color Palette Timeless

While trendy colors can be fun, neutral, muted, and monochromatic palettes tend to look more elegant in photos. Classic shades like ivory, champagne, soft blush, and muted greens create a sophisticated and timeless aesthetic that won’t feel dated years down the line.

Final Thoughts

Elegance and luxury in wedding photos don’t require a massive budget—just intentional, thoughtful choices in decor. By making small upgrades to chairs, linens, lighting, and floral design, you can create a setting that looks stunning in person and photographs like a dream.

The beauty is in the details, and when those details are carefully curated, your wedding images will reflect the elegance and magic of your day.
